Oklahoma Proposing ‘Big Brother’ Bill

I read a startling article today stating that the Oklahoma House of Representatives has a new bill on the blocks called the “Computer Spyware protection Act”. It is intended to be a way to deter hackers and virus writers, and give legal standing to prosecute and heavily fine violators. The problem is there are provisions in the bill that allow companies such as Microsoft or Symantec to abuse the law and, in essence, spy on you — and even worse, it allows them to erase software of their choosing and possibly report you for your activities.

If you click that “accept” button on the routine user’s agreement, the proposed law would allow any company from whom you bought upgradable software the freedom to come onto your computer for “detection or prevention of the unauthorized use of or fraudulent or other illegal activities in connection with a network, service, or computer software, including scanning for and removing computer software prescribed under this act.”
