National Academy of Sciences Releases Evolution Text

The National Academy of Sciences, in partnership with the Institute of Medicine, announced the release of the newly revised and updated edition of Science, Evolution and Creationism. Targeted at the general public and available for free online, this book gives:

a comprehensive and up-to-date picture of the current scientific understanding of evolution and its importance in the science classroom.

The book is, in part, a response to the ID movement:

Despite the overwhelming evidence supporting evolution, opponents have repeatedly tried to introduce nonscientific views into public school science classes through the teaching of various forms of creationism or intelligent design…NAS and IOM strongly maintain that only scientifically based explanations and evidence for the diversity of life should be included in public school science courses.

Hopefully, it will help facilitate a better public understanding of science.
